easter, love and the kitchen
polaroids + flowers are two of my favourite things these days
With a long weekend ahead, these four days will be spent travelling.
And, for the first time, the Easter menu is being planned by me and my brother. As far as I remember, a great part of our time together, as a family, was spent cooking. The kitchen was always such an important part of what we loved – preparing food, discovering new recipes. And this was passed on to my brother and me. Him being five years older, I clearly remember him cooking when I was still too silly to be interested in pans and pots. But then, I discovered the simple joy of baking a rather plain cake and loving it. And the faces of everyone I loved when they ate it.
There a certain rituals that still come to my mind when I think of my childhood. The almond pecan pie my grandmother baked everytime she would come and stay at our house, that made us rush to the kitchen counter and hope that my mother would let us eat a piece right away. It was so good, with the almond crunchy and golden and the filling gooey and sweet, that since she died, almond pie lost all its appeal – because I could never find another one so special.
I guess this is what drives me to cook, its the memories and the stories behind my favourite food. It can be as simple and my mothers chicken with spaguetthi or the memories of eating honey right from the jar, hidden in the pantry with my grandfather, when I was five or six.
The kitchen is all about love. Love you put into what you cook, and cooking for the ones you love.
tuesday finds: seesaw vintage
This week’s Tuesday Finds has been on my mind for a long time.
SeeSaw is a full-service graphic design and letterpress studio based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Founded by three ladies who met in college and share a love of design and letterpress, SeeSaw celebrated it’s two year anniversary last May. They also have a blog, filled with their work, inspiration and gorgeous images. But apart from design, they built the cutest Esty shop with vintage clothes and houseware.
I am drooling over the melamine pink set and the citrus towel!
NYCPP
Andrew Faris took pictures of NYC, for seven years, with his parents Polaroid Camera. He recently compiled them and you can check them out here.
from finland
A few weeks ago, Katja, from the lovely blog Nestled In, sent me this package. She sent me the cutest napkins from Marimekko
and a cute postcard from a photo she took, that is currently in our fridge door!
But what I loved the most was an issue from the Finnish decor magazine Deko, filled with beautiful styling and images! It is truly inspiring to look at!
Thank you so much Katja!!
I enjoyed so much this experience of sending this package that I’d like to do it more often! Is anyone interested?
